AI and coding agents in particular have made something I and most people approach coding. No longer the bottleneck is writing the code, but thinking about what to build, how to validate what was built, and sometimes manage usage to avoid running into subscription limits.
This could have meant, and sometimes it does that we are freer to move around "while coding". You can specify a task, let it run and come back in 1 hour to see what happened. The scary part is: what if it gets stuck or if it needs something from me? Then you might have "wasted" 1 hour or 2 hours of running time, and you no longer make the deadline. What to do instead?
Claude code app allows you to interact via your phone! That mean that you can walk around and unblock Claude, but that also means that wherever you go, work follows you: you don't need a good keyboard to write code, you just need to tap your phone twice. The work life balance is gone! I often find myself in the gym chatting with Claude between reps and it's all work.
The other problem is this idea of "wasted idle hours". If I don't have my agents running at night, I'm probably wasting precious time to ship features or I'm under using my subscription! Not good in either case.
As a result I feel like a 3x engineer that has a 3x workaholism problem that will only get worse.
